Shangri-La Hotel, Paris, France

Shangri-La is a five-star hotel, and now officialy a Palace. It is part of a group called Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, from Asia. Located in very center of France’s capital, hotel has French chic with Asian touches. Shangri-La is everything that Paris is - an example of luxury, elegance and quality.

Shangri-La was opened in December 2010. Before being turned into the hotel this was residence of Prince Roland Bonaparte, grand nephew of Napoleon.

It took a lot of work and best creative team of France and Europe to research history and to reconstruct the building. The goal was to preserve as much of original design as it is possible, to bring out that beauty of 19th century architecture, but also to build a luxury hotel at the same time. Project team was led by architect Richard Martinet and interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. They managed to place non-historic parts in already 114 years old harmony of the palace, and create a masterpiece.

Not just that today this is a five-star hotel, but it’s also on the list of Historical Monuments of French heritage.

Shangri-La is located in the heart of Paris, right next to the river Seine, on the hill of Chaillot. Its first “neighbor” is Place du Trocadero, Eiffel Tower is just across the river and Avenue Montaigne and Champs Elysees are in walking distance from the hotel. When you see it, you realize why Prince Roland chose this location for his residence.

The moment you step in, you get the sense of what they were trying to create here, a mix of Asia and France in one beautiful hotel. Colors of blue and gold, with white tones are used to represent the mix. Here and there you’ll see huge vases of Ming influence, French chandeliers, colorful ceilings and beautiful woodwork.

When it comes to accommodation, Shangri-La hotel has 101 rooms (36 of them are suites). Most of the suits and some rooms have stunning view of Eiffel Tower. But in common for every room is that they are filled with sunlight filled with sunlight throughout the day. It’s like they’ve found the sunniest place in Paris to place the hotel.

Rooms are categorized as Superior, Deluxe or Premier. In each room careful selection of furniture, materials and colors have been picked to provide comfort and enjoyment for guests. All bathrooms in Shangri-La hotel are done in marble, they have heated floors and some of them have a view of Eiffel Tower.

Shangri-La Suits have very much the same interior as rooms, with difference of having minimum two distinct parts. They are categorized as Deluxe, Duplex Premier and Premier, with exception of three special suits: The Chaillot Suite, The Shangri-La Suite and The Imperial Suite. Each of them has different décor and something special of their own.

The Chaillot Suite is done in modern style, with classic furniture and few touches of Asia. It’s the smallest one of the three signature suits.

The Shangri-La Suite is located on the 7th floor of the hotel, at the same level as the first floor of Eiffel Tower. It has grand terrace, of 100m2 and 14 meters long window panorama of Paris.

The Imperial Suite is the only one listed as historical monument because of its moldings and gilt decorations.

There are four reception rooms in hotel, used for conference, seminars, wedding and banquets. They all follow style of the hotel, with elegance and grace, and they are provided with modern audiovisual equipment. Grand Salon is the biggest one with original chandeliers and marble fireplace. The other three are Salon Roland Bonaparte, La Salle à Manger and Le Salon de Famille.

Shangri-La hotel has 3 restaurants, each with different style of cooking and look, with 2 of them awarded with Michelin stars.

La Bauhinia is mix of contemporary French and Asian restaurants. It’s placed in very bright room with casual atmosphere. All dishes have original flavors.

L’ Abeille is two Michelin stars awarded restaurant. It represents excellence mixed with perfect French cuisine. It is open for dinner only, from Tuesday to Saturday.

Shang Palace received his star soon after opening. It is done in typical Asian style and serves authentic Chinese dishes.

Hotel’s bar or Le Bar as it is called is also decorated in the mix of styles, giving guests the feeling of travel and escape. Here you can enjoy The Pink Lady, which is hotel’s signature cocktail, or Asian special - Pékin Express, or choose something from the wine list.

Inside the hotel, for guests yearning for relaxation, there is pool and fitness center. Just like the most of the hotel, rooms are filled with sunlight. Pool is 15 meters long, has ceiling windows and exit to the private open air terrace.
